The 2026 uprising in Iran began after years of political repression and economic collapse under a totalitarian regime. While inflation, unemployment, and shortages triggered nationwide protests, the message in the streets was clear: this is a collective rejection of the Islamic Republic and its decades of authoritarian rule.
The regime responded with extreme violence. Peaceful protesters were met with live fire in what has become one of the deadliest crackdowns in Iran’s modern history, with more than 33,000 people reportedly killed and tens of thousands arrested. A near-total internet blackout has been imposed to hide the scale of the crimes. Despite being unarmed and facing immense risk, people continue to resist. What they urgently need now is visibility and support from the international community.
This revolutionary protest, known as the Lion and Sun Revolution, represents Iranians worldwide. Protesters are chanting the name of exiled Prince Reza Pahlavi as a leader for the transition period.
