Raheleh Amiri, an Iranian woman and psychologist from Kerman, Iran, endured life-changing trauma during the "Woman, Life, Freedom" uprisings when a close-range bullet caused blindness in her right eye. Forced to leave her homeland due to threats and obstacles created by the government, she had to seek treatment outside Iran. While the providers in Italy believed there was absolutely no hope to save her eye, multiple ophthalmologists in Iran, Spain, and the US strongly recommended immediate corneal transplant and retinal surgeries to restore her vision. Phenomenal efforts of multiple human activists, friends, and physicians helped Raheleh get to the US for treatment. Having lost most of her golden clinical time to save her eye, she urgently needs multiple treatments. She appeals for help to support her critical journey toward her sight recovery. Raheleh expresses profound gratitude for any assistance during this challenging time.

“An Eye for Freedom”

In Iran, a distressing and ongoing practice has been noted: security forces deliberately target protestors' eyes at close range during demonstrations, resulting in severe injuries and irreversible damage. This brutal tactic, employed during demonstrations, has been systematically used to suppress dissent. Reports suggest at least 580 protestors sustained serious eye wounds, and some were obstructed from receiving proper medical care.

Several victims, like Mersedeh Shahinkar and Raheleh Amiri, were forced into exile after losing their sight due to such violence. These victims, including diverse individuals like actors and young protestors, bear their injuries as a mark of defiance against the regime's brutality. Despite the physical and psychological toll, some express unwavering support for the protest cause, while others lament the enduring darkness brought upon their lives by these traumatic events.
